12 Days of Anime 2017

WINTER 2017 IN A NUTSHELL

From top left to bottom right: Saga of Tanya the Evil, Kemono Friends, Kobayashi no Maidragon, Konosuba S2, Interviews with Monster Girls, Little Witch Academia

I invite everyone with a blog to participate in the 12 Days of Anime project for 2017.

You’ve all had it. Some great moment or feeling you found this year that related to a show you watched. Love, longing, validation, satisfaction, utter hatred, disappointment, you name it. 2017 has come and passed and so has its anime. Surely, there is something that you will remember, some opinion or dedication to an episode you liked or a character you adored. What about best girls, ships, problematic faves, and merchandise? What about changes in how you watch anime, or how you talk about it?

Any of your thoughts about anime,  even the ones that may seem boring or of no interest to you, will become new ideas for your readers. And I say that is important enough to dedicate a post to.As the name suggests, you will publish once a day. Start on the 14th of December and keep at it until the 25th of December, right in time for Christmas Day. Think of it as a sort of shitty Advent Calendar for the Anime Christmas you’ll probably never have otherwise. Don’t worry, we’ll celebrate somehow.

You can make it a top 12 anything. Or you can have no order to what you write. I personally am going to make a list of things that resonated with me in this year’s anime. I previously made it about specific anime moments, and another year I briefly talked about concepts that came to my mind when watching a show. There is always something to talk about.

But it won’t happen until you start thinking. That’s why I’m writing this today, rather than in December. You know the reason why marketing campaigns put up the Christmas and Thanksgiving stuff as early as October? It’s to get you thinking about what you want to do for Christmas and Thanksgiving. I want to evoke the same effect on this project. There is plenty of dead time that can be used to at least think about it and, ideally, jot down some ideas.

They don’t even have to be secret. I really want to talk about Tanya from Saga of Tanya the Evil and Nina from Rage of Bahamut: Virgin Soul. I want to talk about my favorite episodes from 18if and the fact that I finally finished Re:Zero this year. Those are just some ideas personally. And you can tell that I haven’t watched stuff like HeroAca and Attack on Titan. There’s going to be something that you watched and others didn’t.

WINTER 2k17 IN A NUTSHELL

im not gonna even try with this one

Again, I invite you to participate in the 12 Days of Anime project. Every voice in this matters. I look forward to reading all of your posts.

Important Things

  • Sign up here so that I  and everyone else know you’re participating. Add in your own name and link your preferred method of publishing.
  • On the same spreadsheet, there will be pages of 12 Days projects from previous years. I suggest reading them if you want to see what usually goes on in a 12 Days post.
  • You’ll notice that some of those entries are incomplete. That is natural. It’s your personal challenge to make it all the way to 12. So fight!
  • Be sure to link back to this post so that it can be seen by as many people as possible.
  • #12DaysofAnime
  • Tweet me @appropriant for any questions or perhaps even follow me for my sassy acerbic content.

  1. You know what, I accept your challenge. Because I came to anime so late in life and I feel like I’m not a “real” Otaku like some people, I rarely write about anime. But face it, I’ve written a novel based on anime themes, I’m learning Japanese for crying out loud BECAUSE of anime, and I spent most nights watching 2 or 3 hours of anime – it’s time to admit it, I may be an anime fan. And why not write about it? And I need all the help I can get to get me through that bit of December. This will ink to my unused WordPress account, but I will post on the blog I actually use : https://summerfoovay.blogspot.com/

    1. Wonderful! Just make sure to leave your name and blog on the spreadsheet so that you can see how the project will progress. I know it says Twitter Handle, but it’s really only because it’s catered to people on Twitter.

Wha-wha-what? *blinking owlishly* OHMIGOD. Do you think anyone will mind if I jump in late? In my defense, we moved 700+ miles December 7th and had to find a place to live and, well, I KNEW I wanted to do this and then all of sudden I was getting notes to read other peoples articles that I subscribe to and I was all like – think they will hate me if I am late and jump in anyway, because, you know, I had stuff to say and… well then, if you don’t mind…

        1. you are forever banned from my comment section for your insolence. I will be tracking your every post, and whenever you even mention the word 12 i will end you and your blog

of course i dont mind. There’s really no requirement to join and no reward except your personal satisfaction

        2. You had me going for a second there :P The first post is up and I will hopefully get one or two done tonight, maybe even 3 to catch me up :D

  3. So doing this again XD I failed last year :) this is such a great idea :)

  4. I started my blog on the 27th and missed this challenge last year so I’d like to sign up this time! I think saying I’ll do it now will motivate me to do it and not back up so thank you!

    1. Sorry for the late reply! Of course you can sign up. All you have to do is go to the spreadsheet and link your blog there. You’ll see people already putting up their post ideas and while I suggest you do so too, it’s not required in any way.
